EC Plays Franklin in Conference Game

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College football team played it first home game in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday against Franklin College.

The No. 14 Grizzlies defeated the Quakers 80-14 in Darrell Beane Stadium.

Malik Reid scored Earlham's first touchdown on a 51-yard run at the 9:30 mark of the opening period to make it 14-7.

Earlham's last score came in the third quarter when Matt Couch hooked up with John Hood on a 23-yard pass at 3:33.

Couch finished the afternoon 12-of-28 for 91 yards. Alonzo Genelin was 9-of-17 for 62 yards.

Malcolm Williams led the Quakers with seven catches for 31 yards. Jalen Kenner had five receptions for 37 yards. Leslie Dunlap had four grabs for 44 yards.

Ben Ballinger and Dumont Schmidt topped the Earlham defense with seven tackles each. Kaleb Lingg, Nate McCormack, Alec Dues and Lajay Kelly had six tackles apiece.

The Quakers (1-3, 0-2) are on the road next Saturday at Defiance College. The HCAC contest starts at 1:30 p.m.
