RICHMOND, Indiana – After being away from home the first four games including a bye week, the Earlham College football team finally gets to play at Darrell Beane Stadium when the Quakers host Franklin College for a 1:30 p.m. game on Saturday.
The Teams: Earlham and Franklin. The Quakers are looking for their first win of the season after falling 34-14 at Defiance College last Saturday. The Grizzlies are 3-2 this season and a percent 3-0 in conference play. Franklin destroyed Manchester University 69-19 last Saturday.
The Coaches: Nick Johnson enters his third year as Earlham's head football coach. The HCAC Coach of the Year in 2015, Johnson played football for the Quakers from 1997-01 and later served the program as defensive coordinator from 2007-12. He also held the position of head track and field coach for 12 seasons. Mike Leonard has been Franklin's head football coach since 2003 and has led the Grizzlies to seven HCAC championships and a berth in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals in 2008.
The Offense: Senior Wesley Hundley has accounted for 1,130 of 985 yards (87 percent) of the Quakers' offense through four games this season while leading the team in passing and rushing. Senior wide receiver Marcaus Cooper as hauled in 27 receptions for 307 yards and four touchdowns. Franklin brings one of the nation's top offensives to Richmond has quarterback Chase Burton averages over 348 yards passing and has thrown for 20 touchdowns. Deontez Alexander and Lee Wroblewski have both caught over 20 passes including six for touchdowns.
The Defense: Sophomore Kobe Walker, who made a career-high 17 tackles at Defiance last week, leads the Quaker's defense with 35 wrap-ups. Junior Joe Enwright has forced two fumbles while sophomore R.J. Scott has a team-high 3.5 tackles for loss. The Grizzlies, who do allow over 30 points per game, are led by a ground of six senior who all have made over 20 tackles. Austin Fleming has a team-high 45 tackles while Nathan Warman has made four tackles for loss. Tace Rooks and Ryan Conner both have one interception.
Recent History: Earlham is 0-7 against Franklin since joining the HCAC prior to the 2010 season. The closest game during that span was a 49-20 Grizzlies victory during the 2014 season.
