Field hockey stopped at home by Rhodes

RICHMOND, Ind. – Rhodes College senior Hailey Mules completed her hat trick with 1:06 remaining in the first overtime period to lift the visiting Lynx to a 4-3 win over Earlham College, in a non-conference field hockey matchup on Saturday at Darrell Beane Stadium.

Mules scored the game winner on a shot from seven yards out, off a pass from Meghan Harmon. Mules also scored Rhodes' first goal, at the 4:56 mark of the first quarter, and the Lynx third goal with 10:48 showing in the fourth quarter.

Earlham's Denise Bergdolt got the Quakers on the scoreboard first with a blast from the top of the circle on a penalty corner with 11:28 remaining in the opening frame, off a pass from Guin Schalck.

Rhodes jumped ahead on scores by Mules and Ashley Neiswender, before Schalck knotted things up with a shot from 10 yards out that beat Rhodes goalie Nina Migneco with 7:51 remaining in the second quarter.

The Quakers went up 3-2 early in the third quarter with a goal from Olivia Layne, before Mules' second goal forced the overtime period.

Rhodes outshot Earlham, 22-10, with Quakers goalie Meg Murphy charting 10 saves. Migneco finished with six stops. The Lynx also had a dominant margin in penalty corners, 15 to 3.

Earlham returns to action on Friday, Sept. 20, when it hosts Wittenberg University. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
