RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College first year Mel Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, following her performance over two games last week.
Johnson recorded a clean sheet in her first collegiate start with a 2-0 win over Muskingum on Friday, Aug. 30, giving Earlham women's soccer its first win in a season opener since 2014. She recorded six saves over the 90 minutes in the Quaker goal.
Johnson then played the second half in Earlham's 3-2 loss at Saint Mary's College of Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 1. She charted four saves over the 45 minutes in goal with one goal allowed.
Through 135 minutes, Johnson has a 0.67 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
Earlham women's soccer travels to Berea, Ky., on Wednesday, Sept. 4, to play Berea College, and will return home to face Illinois College on Saturday, Sept., 7, at Matlack-Messer Field.
