RICHMOND, Ind. – A pair of second-half goals for Rose-Hulman lifted the visiting Fightin' Engineers to a 2-0 win over Earlham College women's soccer, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference clash on Homecoming weekend at Matlack-Messer Stadium.
After a scoreless opening half, Rose-Hulman ended the scoring hex in the 63rd minute when Jessica Wells recorded an unassisted goal. The Engineers doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute when Maddy Twetten got a shot into the top left corner of the Earlham, past EC keeper Mel Johnson.
Rose-Hulman outshot Earlham, 24-6, over the 90 minute contest, with Johnson finishing the game with 11 saves. RHIT keeper Katie Demert logged three stops for the Fightin' Engineers.
The Quakers slipped to 7-7-0 overall with the loss, 0-5-0 in the HCAC, while Rose-Hulman improved to 9-4-1, 4-0-1 in conference.
Earlham women's soccer returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 23, when it hosts Anderson University (9-2-2, 3-0-1 HCAC) at 3:30 p.m. at Matlack-Messer Stadium.
